FRANCIA RECONOCE LA INDEPENDENCIA DE
MAURITANIA Y DESAFÍA A LA
IDEOLOGÍA DEL “GRAN
MARRUECOS”
El “Gran Marruecos” es un proyecto que además de a España, afectaba a
Francia. En el “Gran Marruecos” se incluían territorios de soberanía (Ceu-
ta, Melilla e islas del Mediterráneo) o de dominio español (Ifni, Villa Bens
o “zona sur del
protectorado de España en Marruecos”, Sahara Español),
pero también territorios
que Francia consideraba de su soberanía (Argelia)
o que eran territorios coloniales (Mauritania, Mali) bajo su administración.
Es importante notar que la primera
proyección política de la ideología del
“Gran Marruecos”, desde que fue asumida por la monarquía alauita, no fue
contra España, sino contra Francia. Este primer, y
fracasado, intento de ha-
cer realidad el “Gran Marruecos” resulta de extraordinario
interés porque
los argumentos “histórico-jurídicos” esgrimidos por Marruecos para in-
tentar apoderarse de Mauritania fueron los mismos que luego utilizó para
intentar legitimar su ocupación del Sahara Occidental.
Apenas unos días después de que El Fasi haga público su proyecto
nacionalista expansionista del “Gran Marruecos” Francia aprueba el 23
de junio de 1956 una ley marco para conceder la autonomía a sus co-
lonias. Esa ley, que concede el sufragio universal a hombres y mujeres,
establece que esos territorios podrán
tener una “Asamblea territorial”
