FOREWORD

In this so-called age of “post-truth politics,”1 it is argued that ““[m]ost

Western citizens discovered that global interdependence and integra-

tion meant that individual nations lost control over their destinies to

an impersonal system. e idea that nations were obsolete might be

good for crony elites . . . . In this ‘new normal,’ Westerners living at

or below the median income [nd] themselves in shattered communi-

ties with nowhere to economically immigrate to.”2 is phenomenon

has undoubtedly fueled the populist surge in the traditionally liberal

West which has been understood as a backlash to the ever-increasing

transnationalization of both idea and physical movement of humanity.
