Milestones in Corporate Governance:
An International Review
The early years
The journal was established some eight
years ago and has gone from strength to
strength under the editorship of its founder,
Bob Tricker.
Bob's name is, to many, synonymous with
the phrase `corporate governance' and the
contribution which he has made to the field
is well recognised. His original research study
on aspects of corporate governance was The
Independent Director (1978) and he wrote the
first book to use the title Corporate Governance
in 1984. Subsequently he has written many
theoretical and practice related papers and
cases, and he advises directors and boards
around the world on matters of strategy and
governance. I am sure that Bob will continue
to make a key contribution to corporate
governance for many years to come.
Social Sciences Citation Index
As mentioned the journal has gone from
strength to strength and has been included
in the Social Sciences Citation Index (SSCI)
with effect from 1st January 2000.
International recognition for research
The quality of papers published in the journal
is evidenced by the fact that one of the papers
was selected as the winner of the AESC
Europe first annual Award honouring the
best 1999 European published research on
leadership and corporate governance. Our
congratulations on this award to Jeroen
Weimer and Joost Pape for their article `A
Taxonomy of Systems of Corporate Govern-
ance' published in this journal Volume 7 (2),
April 1999.
The journal has also seen the recognition of
earlier papers such as that by James Hawley
and Andrew Williams `The Emergence of
Fiduciary Capitalism', published in Volume 5
(4) which was awarded the Lens Inc prize for
the best corporate governance paper.
Recent developments
I am delighted to have been asked to become
the editor of Corporate Governance: An Inter-
national Review. I would like to thank Bob for
the comprehensive handover he has given me
and for the advice and support of the
Editorial Advisory Board and publishers
during this period. I would also like to thank
contributors and referees who have also been
understanding during the changeover.
The journal has a blend of research based,
theoretical and profession al papers which
provide a unique insight into a broad range
of corporate governance issues in an inter-
national context. I look forward to reading
the many excellent contrib utions that are
submitted and to the continued success of
the journal.
