Simon Zadek

Dr Simon Zadek is co-CEO of the not-for-profit organisation,

NatureFinance.1 Prior to this, he led the UN Secretary General’s Task Force

on Digital Financing of the Sustainable Development Goals, was Senior

Advisor on Sustainable Finance in the Executive Office of the UN Secretary

General, and the Co-Director of the UN’s Finance Inquiry.

He co-chaired China’s Green Finance Task Force and led the G20 green

finance workstream secretariat under the Chinese, German and Argentinian

Presidencies. He founded and led the standards body AccountAbility, was

Development Director of the New Economics Foundation and founding Chair

of the Ethical Trading Initiative.

He is widely published, including his PhD entitled An Economics of

Utopia: the Democratisation of Scarcity, the award-winning book, The

Civil Corporation, and on topics as diverse as sustainability auditing,

Buddhist Economics, and trade and development. He has supported many

major corporations and multi-stakeholder sustainability initiatives and has

held academic positions at the Copenhagen Business School, Harvard,

Tshingua, and Singapore management universities.

Social enterprises and markets have too often been conceived

of as distinct, small, and usually marginal segments of the wider
