Cooperation urged to resolve outstanding issues over Cyprus.

Security Council members on 28 March urged all those concerned with the situation in Cyprus to cooperate fully with Secretary-General Javier Perez de Cuellar and to continue discussions that had taken place over the past few months in order to resolve the outstanding issues without delay.

Members' views were reflected in a statement issued, following Council consultations, by Council President Peter Hohenfellner of Austria.

The Secretary-General reported that current conditions for an over-all agreement were "favourable". He noted that over the past few months, his effort was supported by discussions between one of his aides and a senior official of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkey. He stressed the importance that these talks continue. The Secretary-General stated that it would be possible to reach an agreed outline in "a few months" if progress is made on the key outstanding issues, namely: territorial adjustments; freedom of settlement; and displaced persons.
