Regulation 1
Adoption of these Regulations
1. These Regu lations have been adopted pursuant to a rticle 52 and shall be read subjec t
to the Statute and the Ru les.
2. These Regu lations have been adopted i n English and Fre nch. Translations i n the
official la nguages of the Court are e qually authentic.
Regulation 21
Use of terms
1. In these Regu lations:
- “article” refers to an a rticle of the Statute;
- “Assembly” refers to the As sembly of States Parties to the Statute;
- “Chamber” refer s to a Chamber of the Court;
- “Chief Custody Of ficer” refers to the officer appointed by the C ourt as the head
of the staff of t he detention centre;
- - “counsel” refers to a defence c ounsel and a legal r epresentative of a v ictim,
whether lead or associ ate counsel;
- “Court” refer s to the International Cri minal Court;
- “Deputy Prose cutor” refers to a Deputy Prosec utor of the Court;
- “Deputy Regi strar” refers to the Deput y Registrar of the Cour t;
- “detained person” refers to any per son detained in a detention centre;
- “detention centre” refers to any pri son facilit y other than the pr ison facil ity
described i n article 103, paragraph 4, ma intained by the Cour t or maintained by
other authorities a nd made available to the Court;
- “Division” refe rs to a Division of the Court;
- “Elements of Cri mes” refers to the Elements of Crimes as de scribed in artic le 9;
- “host State” refers to the Net herlands;
- “judge” refers to a judge of the Cour t;
- “list of cou nsel” refers to the list of cou nsel as described in r ule 21, sub-rule 2, and
shall als o include legal represe ntatives of vict ims, and thos e counsel retai ned
without legal as sistance paid by the Court who w ish to be entered in the list;
- “Office of the Pros ecutor” refers to the organ of the Co urt as described i n article
34;
