CGIR Paper Development Workshop
Brisbane, Saturday, July 1st, 2023
Corporate Governance: An International Review is delighted to announce a paper
development workshop (PDW) for scholars seeking to publish high-quality scholarship in the
area of corporate governance.
The workshop is open to new and established scholars and will take place at the Queensland
University of Technology in Brisbane on Saturday July 1st, 2023. The event is timed to take
place in the lead up to the 2023 AFAANZ conference on the Gold Coast (July 2nd – July 4th).
The Editors-in-Chief of CGIR, Professors Konstantinos Stathopoulos and Till Talaulicar, will
attend the workshop, along with several Editors and members of the Editorial Board.
Objective
The purpose of the PDW is twofold. First, the workshop aims to provide a venue for corporate
governance scholars from across the Asia-Pacific region to network and explore joint research
opportunities. Second, it aims to provide scholars with the opportunity to obtain developmental
feedback on their corporate governance papers for which CGIR might be a potential submission
target.
Program
The PDW will be divided in two parts. For the first formal part, we will have Professor Abe De
Jong (Monash University) and Professor Flora Kuang (University of Melbourne) giving
keynotes on contemporary governance issues. The CGIR Editors-in-Chief will present the
journal’s mission and scope, key statistics on submissions and acceptance rate, and the
editorial review process. This will be followed by a question-and-answer session with the
editorial team and the possibility to have informal conversations with the Editors-in-Chief,
Editors and Editorial Board Members of CGIR so to learn the nuances of successful publication
strategies.
After lunch, the second part of the day will see participants break-out in small groups to discuss
their research with CGIR Editors, Editorial Board Members and workshop participants. The
focus will be on providing constructive feedback on how to improve working papers, so as to
increase the probability of acceptance by CGIR or other relevant journals. Please note that we
also intend to organise an informal dinner on the evening of July 1st, 2023.
Application Process
We are soliciting corporate governance scholars – from any discipline (e.g., accounting,
finance, law, management, strategy) and level – to submit an original paper. Each applicant
may submit only one paper. Submitted papers must be typically less than 10,000 words in
length, include an abstract, up to five keywords, and follow the CGIR author guidelines. Papers
should be submitted via email to p.bezemer@ecu.edu.au. The deadline for submissions is
Monday April 8th, 2023. Submitters will be notified whether they can participate in the event
by Monday May 8th, 2023 and are asked to confirm their participation by the end of May.
