Pandemic Recovery and East Asian Economic Resilience

The Covid-19 pandemic is the most serious shock to the peace time global

economy in 90 years. The impact of the Covid-19 pandemic has a devastating

impact on global economies and caused serious disruptions on economic activi-

ties and societies. It has tested every aspect of government and society, from the

health system to macroeconomic management and much else. East Asia is no

exception, with much societal disruption and significant increases in poverty,

alongside highly variable outcomes across and within countries.

As we approach the two-year mark, this internationalwebinar will provide a stocktake

of the record to date and an overview of the challenges going forward. The webinar will

bring together leading researchers and expert panel to discuss key economic and social

issues related to the economic resilience and recoveryof East Asia.

Among the key issues to be examined by an expert panel are:

(1) Will East Asia recover its economic dynamism?

(2) How does the global and regional architecture need to be refor med?

(3) What are the salient lessons from the pandemic episode?

(4) How has the event transformed national development priorities?
