One Japanese Ministry of Finance (MOF) official recently labeled Foreign Minister Makiko Tanaka a "troublemaker" seemingly beefing up claims that the new Japanese official is hypersensitive to the Chinese and appears anti-American at inside meetings with colleagues (see From the Founder). Why the animosity? The argument goes that Tanaka blames the CIA for ending her father's political career in lieu of the 1994-95 Lockheed scandal. Kakuei Tanaka, Japan's most famous prime minister, ruled from 1972-74. It then came out that American aircraft maker Lockheed had bribed top government officials to win lucrative contracts.
