ABOUT THE EDITORS
Roger Martella is an international environmental attorney with Sidley Aus-
tin LLP in Washington, D.C., focusing on assisting multinational corporations
with environmental compliance, sustainable development, and litigation
across the globe. Prior to joining Sidley Austin, Mr. Martella was the General
Counsel of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the Principal
Counsel for Complex Litigation for the Justice Department’s Natural
Resources Section. Mr. Martella is the co-chair of the International Bar Asso-
ciation’s Climate Change Justice and Human Rights Task Force, vice chair of
the American Bar Association’s Sustainable Development Task Force, and
vice chair of the ABA’s World Justice Forum committee. Mr. Martella also is
the founder of the U.S. EPA’s China Environmental Law Initiative. He is
listed as one of the ten leading environmental lawyers globally by the Inter-
national Who’s Who of Environmental Lawyers. Mr. Martella graduated
from Vanderbilt Law School, where he was Editor in Chief of the Vanderbilt
Law Review, and Cornell University.
J. Brett Grosko is a Trial Attorney in the U.S. Department of Justice Environ-
ment and Natural Resources Division. He previously served as an attorney-
advisor at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Office of
General Counsel and an international litigation associate at Holland &
Knight LLP, and clerked at the U.S. Court of International Trade. Prior to
attending law school, he researched environmental law enforcement on a
Fulbright scholarship. For the ABA Section of Environment, Energy, and
Resources, Mr. Grosko is a vice chair of the Environmental Rule of Law Task
Force and a former co-chair and current vice chair of the International Envi-
ronmental and Resources Law Committee. He graduated from the George
Washington University Law School, the Johns Hopkins University School of
Advanced International Studies, and Georgetown University. The views
expressed in the Introduction and East and South Asia Overview are those
of Mr. Grosko and do not necessarily reflect the views of the U.S. Depart-
ment of Justice or the United States. The views expressed in the other chap-
