About the Author
Kevin J. Fandl is the Director of the Global Legal Education Insti-
tute, the premiere legal executive education program for interna-
tional legal practitioners. Kevin founded
the institute following several years of
traveling and teaching abroad, where he
realized the gap in skills-based legal edu-
cation. Previously, he spent eight years
as an attorney, senior counselor, and man-
ager in federal government. He won nu-
merous leadership awards while working
as a public servant and traveled across the
country delivering advanced legal re-
search and writing courses to staff attor-
neys.
Following law school, Kevin was selected to be a Presidential
Management Fellow, leading him into a career of public service.
He began his doctoral studies in 2005 and was awarded a Fulbright
scholarship in 2006 to study and teach law in Colombia. This expe-
rience greatly expanded his view of legal education outside the
United States. He has also consulted on projects for the World Bank
and the Organization of American States as a technical legal expert
on international trade and immigration. He has delivered short
courses on these issues in Colombia, Chile, Costa Rica, El Salva-
dor, Guatemala, Spain, and the Dominican Republic. He lectures in
English and in Spanish.
Kevin began his teaching career in 2004 as a practitioner-in-
structor for foreign LLM students at American University’s Wash-
ington College of Law. In 2007, he worked with that university to
develop its first Legal English program, which grew from 15 stu-
dents to 50 in 2011. He continues to serve as the substantive law
instructor in that program. In 2009, he was invited to be the Course
