    The Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) expresses its deep concern about the deaths of ten migrant persons detained in the custody of the United States of America Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Fiscal year 2017, which began on October 1, 2016 and will end on September 30, 2017. The IACHR urges the United States government to conduct a serious and impartial investigation into these facts, as well as the conditions of detention of migrants in their custody. See Article.

  • IACHR welcomes important advances in torture in Mexico.

    The Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) welcomes the entry into force of the General Law to Prevent Investigation and Punishment of Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment in Mexico. This important legislation, which materializes the efforts of the Mexican State as a whole to eliminate this practice of violating human rights, was published on June 26 in the context of the International Day in Support of Victims of Torture.   • IACHR celebrates entry into force of the Guatemalan Migration Code

    The Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) welcomes the recent entry into force of the Guatemalan Migration Code at the end of April 2017. This Code integrates and harmonizes multiple norms and standards of the Inter-American Human Rights System, International Refugee Law, as well as the International Convention on the Protection of Migrant Workers and Members of their families to the Guatemalan legal system. The IACHR calls on the Guatemalan state to regulate this law and other norms relating to persons in the context of human mobility in accordance with Inter-American human rights standards and standards.
