    The Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) expresses its concern about the human rights situation that continues to affect the people of Puerto Rico after the devastation caused by the impact of two hurricanes in September 2017, generating shortages of services basic and therefore barriers to the exercise of civil, political, economic, social, cultural and environmental rights.     Within the framework of the 20th Anniversary of the Special Rapporteurship for Freedom of Expression of the IACHR, this office and The Trust for The Americas (TRUST) are pleased to launch the online edition of the book "Freedom of Expression: 30 Years of the Advisory Opinion on the compulsory membership of journalists." This is a publication that brings together articles from different regional experts in which the protection and promotion of freedom of expression in the inter-American human rights system is analyzed in light of various challenges, taking as its starting point the interpretative decision of the Inter-American Court of Human Rights that set the basic standards for the preservation of freedom of expression in the hemisphere.     The Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) expresses its deep concern over the decision of the Peruvian government to grant a humanitarian pardon to the former president of Peru, Alberto Fujimori, sentenced to 25 years in prison for serious violations of human rights. The Inter-American Court and the IACHR have ruled on several alarming cases of human rights violations in which Alberto Fujimori was involved as a mediator, including the massacre of fifteen people in Barrios Altos and the forced disappearance and execution of ten students of the University La Cantuta.   • IACHR conducted a working visit to the Dominican Republic

    The Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) undertook a working visit to the Dominican Republic on November 23 and 24, 2017. The purpose of the visit was to follow up on the recommendations made by the IACHR in Chapter IV B of its 2016 Annual Report on the human rights situation in the country. The delegation was composed of Commissioner Margarette May Macaulay, First Vice President of the IACHR and Rapporteur on the Rights of Women, Commissioner Luis Ernesto Vargas Silva, Rapporteur for the Dominican Republic and on the Rights of Migrants, the Executive Secretary of the Commission, Paulo Abrao, and technical staff.
