Sometime about 1938 in the former Soviet Union--after E. A. Korovin (1892-1964) and E. B. Pashukanis (1891-1937), who was ultimately executed, had each been savagely criticized for textbooks on international law under their respective individual authorships--it was determined that textbooks should, as a rule, be under collective authorship. Korovin and F. I. Kozhevnikov (1903-98) persisted with single-author contributions through 1946 as a stopgap, but in 1947 the first collectively prepared text on public international law appeared under the editorship of V. N. Durdenevskii (1899-1963) and S. B. Krylov (1888-1958), superseded in 1951 by another collectively prepared volume edited by Korovin and Krylov, and by yet another in 1957, edited by Kozhevnikov and others.
